| IN THE CLASSROOM
Students at
A Child's Garden Montessori immerse themselves in learning through hands-on
exercises, known as "work." The teacher, or "guide,"
briefly demonstrates the work - sparking the child's curiosity and desire
to experience more of the lesson. Works are chosen for each child based
upon their development, aptitudes and interests.
THE TEACHERS
Each classroom has at least
one certified Montessori teacher and one or two assistants. Each teacher
brings a unique talent set, including Spanish, American Sign Language,
computer science, health, physical education and fine arts. Guest speakers and events are frequently integrated
into the day, further expanding the knowledge and experience for the children.
The teacher's goal is to stimulate
the child's spirit and imagination, support the child's self-esteem and
natural desire for autonomy, foster the development of ethical characteristics
including kindness, respect, and self-discipline, and guide the child
to learn how to observe, question, and explore ideas independently

BEGINNER
The Beginner program accommodates the special needs of young children
ages 18 months to 3. Children introduced to the Montessori environment at
an early age make an easier transition into the Pre-Primary class,
because they are very open to adapt to the order characteristic
to a Montessori environment.
Concentrating on Practical
Life and Sensorial exercises, the curriculum meets the needs of
this age in a smaller classroom with 10 to 12 students. Pre-Language
and Pre-Math materials are included for students as they progress.
These young students have a keen sense of order and very early learn
the process of choosing their "work," repeating the exercises,
and returning it to its proper place. At this age the children expect
a daily routine, and the Montessori environment aids in their feeling
of security and accomplishment.

PRE-PRIMARY
The Pre-Primary program for children 3 to 5 years consists of a
3-hour class. In this expanded environment, the Montessori curriculum
includes practical life (for concentration and practical skills),
sensorial (discriminations through the senses), math, geometry,
language, science, fine arts, geography and cultural studies.
"In-house" field trips, guests and special studies keep
the education process exciting. Guests include Sparky the Firedog
(a real class favorite!), police officers, the zoo and dance instructors.
Examples of special studies are magnetism, Japan, vertebrates and
seasons. Before transitioning into the elementary class, children
begin reading and can complete math tables. Children also learn
social skills and character, as well as the fundamentals of community
service.
EXTENDED DAY

children with approval of the teacher. This program is from 8:30
